Gia and Eva Voorhis frollicking in the knits of the spring 1980 collections. Gorgeous guy biting Gia's finger whom I would love to know the name of - he was also in a Versace ad around this time.





Patti Hansen was, as far as I understand, the first model for Calvin Klein jeans....and she did it so well. Unfortunately I don't know the photographer for this one so it's not included in the file name as usual.


Janice Dickinson, making breaking up with her photographer boyfriend look beautiful. 1980 may have been her best year - there was a depth to her then, in addition to the eery energy level.

On the 29th of January 1960, Gia Carangi was born. These two shots are from the beginning and peak of her success, respectively.

Some things never go out of style

So far, except for Italian Vogue, the best cover has come from a surprising source - Swedish magazine Plaza. This cover features Georgia Frost. Looks a little like the Classic Gia Carangi cover from 1979.

Beauty worshipping

The greatest art of the late 20th century was fashion photography. As art became transformed into merely conceptualism, beauty worship lived on the relatively free form of beauty advertisement.

The golden age of fashion photography is generally thought to be the 50s. In my opinion, however, it is rather the 1970s that was the peak of this artistic movement. The very embodiment of this phenomenon was Gia Carangi - fashion model who died of AIDS at 26 - shown above in a photograph by Francesco Scavullo.
